For those of you following the scoring system there is an error on the original sheet .To earn 2 extra points you must have the actual score of the game . Knockout stages scoring is also slightly different due to the fact that we eliminated predicting scores from the original rules . Here is the scoring system :
2pts for correctly predicting the winning team or tie in each game
2pts extra for correctly predicting the score of the game .
eg. Algeria 0 Slovenia 1 , if you predicted a 1-0 to algeria you will not score points
2pts for correctly picking each teams final group standing (8 points maximum per group)
2ND ROUND :
2 PTS for each correct team in the round of 16(regardless of bracket position) (max 32 points)
eg if your 2nd round has 12 of the 16 teams that advance from the group stage you will earn 24 points.
2pts for each correctly picked winner of each 2nd round game .
e.g if you have France winning game Q1 in the round of 16 and advancing to quarter final you get 2 extra points if they win. you will not get 2 bonus points if France win game Q4. Having teams in the correct bracket position is therefore rewarded.
Maximum Points from 2nd round games : 48 points
QUARTER FINAL :
2 POINTS for each correct team in the quarter final regardless of bracket position (max of 16 points)
2 points for correctly predicting the winner of each quarter final game.
eg if you have the correct team winning the Q5/Q6 game you 2 extra points .
Maximum points for Quarter final : 24 points
SEMI FINAL :
2pts for each correct team in the semi finals (max of 8 points)
2 pts for correctly predicting the winner of each semi final game.
Maximum points for Semi Final : 12 points
FINAL:
2PTS for each correct team in final (max of 4pts)
5pts for correctly picking the winner of the world cup .
Maximum points for the final : 9 points
3rd place game :
2 pts for each correct team in 3rd place game
2 pts for correctly picking winner of 3rd place game
Maximum points for the 3rd place game : 6points
I totally agree with Liz Stokes - thanks to Jason for all the time you put in. It got my boys so excited in the games & the whole process! Many thanks!
Thanks, Jason, for putting the pool together. Our family really enjoyed watching the world cup and following our progress in the pool. We would not have been as invested or as knowledgeable about the teams if not for this pool. It was a lot of fun!!
So there will be an 8th different winner of the World Cup , who will it be Holland or Spain???
Spain!
Heartbreaking! The boys fought hard and fell even harder.
I am looking forward to some KAKA!!! action on Monday to lift my spirits.
Hopefully your gents will "Just Roo It" for you tomorrow!
Hi All,
Back on line, still in China! Only saw 20mins of Brazil V Portugal tonight.
Engand V Germany starts at 2:30 am Monday morning and I Have meetings starting at 9:00a.....eh!
No question I will be watching
So how about we spank Germany and then spank Argentina in the quarters!
That would be decent retribution for "the hand of god" what do you think Jose!
Garry
KEEP living the dream since 1966!!!
It is at 10:00pm.
Yester was a very long day!
Always living and always dreaming my friend
Garry
What a day! What a game!! My oh my!!!!! We (the U.S.A.) so deserved to advance, and to do so in extra time, what drama!!! I was SO nervous & preparing for the harsh reality of the WC being over by the 89th minute... it just looked like it wasn't our day. THEN IT WAS SO GREAT TO BE WRONG!!!! It was OUR DAY!!! As a coach/player/fan, I hope this moment helps soccer grow on this side of the pond!! With ESPN's coverage, we have to have a chance to win some people over a little... right?!?!?… Read More
Victory is oh so sweet!!! Congrats to England and the Come Back Kids! The battle lives on!!
Less that 48 hours to go. Any of you Lions ready to jump ship?...Garry?
England till I die Susie!
Just hope I can find a bar in Shanghai, 10.00pm tonight to see it.
I'm still hoping for England and the USA to move on. Good luck
May both teams fight with gusto! Enjoy the games in Shanghai. I also would love to see the battle live on! Good luck to the Lions!
It's been an outpour of surprises so far for me. Spain loosing, France, England... On the opposite side Paraguay winning 2. The only one I wasn't surprised by was Argentina. I'm disappointed with Italia, I really thought they would be better than this. I'm still hopefull.
ITALY!
Oh dear
Population of New Zealand 4.29 million people and 6 million sheep. No professional soccer league. WOW!
I would throw a tomato, but the Kiwi would probably fly down and grab it! What a let down.. BOO!
Kiwi's can't fly!
But I do understand your sentiment
Just when you thought England maybe the worst team in the World Cup, up step Italy as the new contender
England & Germany does not surprise me. Because I'm rooting for ARGENTINA GO MESSI GOOOO MARADONA!!!!
What a thoroughly disappointing, passionless display from England, they are ruining my World Cup!!
You an me too!
Disgraceful performance!....Nice plain white shirts though
Great comeback from the yanks.... kept their chances alive with two brilliant goals in the second half. Unfortunately got a terrible call from the ref at the end on maurice edu's goal that would of won us the game. Anybody know what the call was?
I think the goal was called off due to the USA wearing ugly uniforms....can't really argue with the ref on that one.
so I watched the US vs England again last night... took the time to rewind and really break down things. well, we (USA) didn't play nearly as well as I thought. we had a little possession, but nowhere near what I thought during my emotionally driven first watch. Bocanegra was outright poor, and the others on the backline played mostly well, with a few bad reads. we were very poor in the final 1/3 of the field as well. I HOPE WE PLAY WELL IN THE MORNING!!! GO U.S.A!!!!
I honestly thought you were too negative and were relying too much on the counter attack . You cant play like that tomorrow though and i see you winning 2-0/2-1 . I thought England were for the taking in the second half but you just got 10 men behind the ball , had our final delivery been better you could have lost the game 3-1 .
You were right I was wrong!
USA did play better and England did play worse! much worse!
That is the worst England performance I can remeber in recent history.
Can't wait to watch our U10' boys in the morning, I know I will see more passsion, comitment and creativity than England showed, and I know I will be Entertained.......C'MON ELA
England were shocking!
I got two scores right today!!! Greece winning 2-1 and Mexico winning 2-0!! I'm moving up those leaders boards, 10 points today.
My Kids and I had Argentina 4-1...who knew! We had a great time this morning watching it actually happen!
Soo looking forward to watching our US boys tomorrow!!
Who Knew?
You apherently, not me
Germany played the worst team in their bracket. I wouldn't be too worried yet.
I refer back to my comments after that 1st game!
Everyone should be worried now they still look superb!
I would, however like a nation that hasn't won it before to prevail.
Does anyone share the opinion that the games have been sloppy so far? Maybe it's the ball or the obnoxious vuvuzelas or the weather or maybe the star players are gassed because of the long club season. What do you think? One thing is for sure, after watching playoff hockey for the last couple months, the game looks slow!!
Up until today I would have agreed with you Bruno. But it seemed like the World Cup came alive today . Chile were great , Switzerland were great and Uruguay too. Lets hope for some continued good games to watch .
Vuvuzela ... I was wondering what that noise was on the tv! I thought they were South African bees or something. According to wikipedia, it's a blowing horn up to approximately 1 m (3 ft 3 in) in length.
Is Jason still coaching because rumor has it that England was scouting him for goalie work! ;-)
So far, good predictions from Dijohn, Sharma, & Steib! Way to go boys!!
GO ARGENTINA ALL THE WAY!!!!!!!!
GO U.S.A.!!!! The point we earned off of England could end up being huge when it comes to advancing. We won the possession battle for much of the first half and showed great response after allowing an easy goal for Gerrard so early. (The tracking out of the midfield from Ricardo Clark was almost as bad as the goal allowed by Green!) Now let's hope we don't think we can just show up and beat Slovenia - we need to play well to win!
Part of me hopes Slovenia plays for the draw, as then they will play the entire game in their end. We will get a Bocanegra or Onyewu header from a restart! (I hope!)
I agree, both USA and England advance. It' 1st or 2nd place that is immense! I don't see either of us getting past Germany, they look superb!
Garry
3 things I have noticed so far with this World Cup.
1. The Germans look ready for a tournament (no surprise)
2. The refs have been good for the most part.
3. I hate Vuvuzela's (that horn sounding noise you have to turn the tv down for!)
Still Pick'n Spain Mickie
England can't play any worse going forward!
USA can't play any better!
Where would your money be?
Garry
Can't argue with that!
USA can't play any better? England can't play any worse? Well I disagree with both of those statements... what happens when they move on and play weaker and better opponents? I say we keep watching, something tells me we will see.
Local buzz has it that several Ela Soccer Coaches are so excited for today's big match up that they could hardly sleep last night! Many of Coach Jason's players are very concerned with how he is going to cope with today's anticipated loss along with running laps while chanting "I love the USA" at his many practices this week. Gosh, I hope that he is watching the game with some buddies...you know what they say about misery. It might help for him to wear his ball cap today, that way he c… Read More
