Coaches Resources



IMPORTANT INFORMATION

  • Team rosters – please do not move kids from one team to another – lots of time went into making these teams
  • Coaches are responsible for contacting the parents on their team and communicating game and practice schedules.
  • Remind parents this is not the world cup. The goal is for all kids to have fun and enjoy soccer. Only positive comments from coaches, spectators and kids is expected.
  • Please follow the Slaughter/Sportsmanship Rule as outlined in the ESC Outdoor Rules.
  • Referees – most referees are just kids who also enjoy soccer. No abuse of referees by the coaches, kids or spectators will be tolerated
  • Medical release forms – please have them with you at every game and practice
  • Weather conditions – check the website– if the fields are closed NO GAMES OR PRACTICES can be held
  • Game cancellations – games are not made up if cancellations occur for any reason.
  • After the game starts either the coaches or the referees can cancel games for safety reasons, i.e. lightening, field conditions, etc. Please follow the lightening rules stated in Rules of Soccer
  • Goal safety – please perform goal safety checks per the forms provided.
  • First aid kits were distributed to each coach – spare kits are in the lock boxes at each field
  • All players must wear shin guards under their soccer socks to all games and practices
  • All players must wear the Ela uniform. Soccer cleats are recommended but not mandatory for U6-U19
  • NO JEWELRY OF ANY KIND – including but not limited to watches, necklaces, and earrings – including starters
  • Only safety glasses may be worn at games and practices
    Coach’s clinics will be available – please make every effort to attend – they are for your, and the kids, benefit
  • ESC also offers additional skills classes for players; please encourage your players to attend.
  • When in doubt, ESC follows USSF soccer rules unless otherwise indicated.

RECREATION PROGRAM RULES


Goal Safety Policy

All goals must be securely anchored when in use. For the safety of the players and to be in compliance with the state assocoation requrements  a physical inspection of the goals must take place before use in a game or practice. The Goal Inspection Form (download below) must be completed by the responsible coach or parent and returned to the Director of Safety at the end of the season.

IYSA RULE 021-A. GOAL SAFETY POLICY: Any coach who participates in practice or a game where the goals are not securely anchored shall be fined not less than $200 and suspended for a minimum of not less than one (1) calendar year from the date of the practice or game involved. In the event the goal is not securely anchored the entity (team, club, league, state) that has primary responsibility for the field or event upon which the unsecured goal is situated shall be fined $1000. Coach means the head coach, any assistant coach, trainer or any other team official present at the time of the violation. The entity against which a fine is imposed shall be in bad standing until the fine imposed is paid. Each team shall maintain in written form a record for each team practice, in which the coach, assistant coach, trainer or other responsible person shall certify that he or she has performed a physical inspection of the goals used in the practice to verify the goals were securely anchored. Each league shall require each club or individual team unaffiliated with a club to certify in writing that it has in place a program to ensure that goals it uses are adequately secured, that its goals have been and will be inspected by a member of the club or team prior to each game or practice. Each club and team shall further certify it has communicated to the parent or guardian of each player the dangers of unsecured goals and their responsibility to assure that goals are secure. Each league shall certify to the IYSA that its clubs and teams have complied with these requirements prior to their annual registration. (Revised 2/5/05)
