Elite's Road to the 2007 Nationals

Our top-level U16 ladies recently gave us a glimpse of their past experiences, as they kicked their way to the National Championships last year. This dedicated, at that time U15, team clearly demonstrates how commitment, tons of hard work, mental toughness and that much needed competitive spirit can deliver big time. Of course, by reading their stories, a whole lot of fun was obviously mixed in as well. Sarah, Amy and Maggie have agreed to share their journals with the rest of their Ela family. They share their enthusiastic wins along with their rough losses. But through it all they are a cohesive team, anxiously waiting for their next kickoff. True Champions!

The Team
Ela Elite is the top-level travel team of the Ela Soccer Club and is dedicated to the most outstanding and committed youth soccer players. The team is comprised of girls from Ela Township and other area communities. The head coach for the Ela Elite program is Tom Chemla. Coaching soccer since 1976 he was recently name the 2007 Illinois Girls Soccer Coach of the year by the Illinois Youth Soccer Association.

Midwest Regional Champions
Last June, as a U15 team, the girls competed as a
Midwest regional league qualifier. They went up against 14 state champions and one other Midwest regional league qualifier. In the final game, they defeated the Kansas state champions, the Blue Valley Stars, and won the Midwest Regional National Championship. On to nationals…..

Outstanding performance in the MRL and as Region II Regional Champions, the U16 team was invited to compete in the Inaugural National League 2007/2008 season.

Headed to Texas and the Final Four National Tournament
Maggie and Sarah capture the highs and lows of their fantastic adventure to Texas. What a wonderful opportunity for the girls. They were up against the finest teams in the nation and came away ranked as #4. Already qualified for next year, they have their sights on improving their already impressive statistics. We are proud that they represent our community, and they are just wonderful role models for all our Ela players. We will continue to follow their story and read about their future accomplishments.
