Ela Soccer Welcomes Angelo DiBernardo

We are pleased to announce that Angelo DiBernardo will be joining Ela Soccer Club this fall, coaching teams within the high school program.

Angelo was born in Argentina where he inherited his passion and love for the game.  He is a former United States Olympic (1980 and 1984) and National Team player (1979 – 1985). His background in soccer is extensive and includes having 27 Caps (International Matches) with the U.S. National Team and was a member of both the 1980 and 1984 U.S. Olympic Team.  He played professionally for 9 years, 6 years with the New York Cosmos alongside some of the greatest players who ever played the game such as Pele, Franz Beckenbauer and Johan Cruyff. 

Angelo has coached at the professional, collegiate, high school, and youth levels.  He played collegiate soccer at the University of Indiana, where he was selected as the College player of the year in 1978 (Hermann award winner).  He taught and coached boys and girls soccer at Waubonsie Valley High School for the past 25 years. He was named High School Sectional Soccer Coach of the Year in 1994 and 1998 and was a finalist for the Coach of the Year Award in 1998. Angelo was recently chosen to the All Century College Team by Soccer America and to the NCAA All time 50th Anniversary Team.   

Angelo has developed a number of soccer players, many of them played and are currently playing in college programs throughout the US: among them his daughter, Vanessa DiBernardo, a standout with the University of Illinois. Currently Vanessa is a member of the Chicago Red Stars, the U23 National Team, and the senior National Team players pool.  Angelo has a USSF "B" license.
